Among these, green machine tools are set to become a major research focus. As the primary machines that transform raw blanks into finished parts, they not only consume energy during operation but also generate solid, liquid, and gaseous waste, causing direct or indirect pollution to both the workplace and the natural environment. Accordingly, green machine tools should possess the following characteristics: their key components are manufactured from recycled materials; their weight and volume are reduced by more than 50%; measures such as lightening moving masses and lowering no‑load power consumption cut energy use by 30%–40%; the various wastes produced during operation are reduced by 50%–60%, ensuring an almost pollution‑free working environment; and, upon decommissioning, 100% of the machine tool’s materials are recyclable. Statistics show that, during operation, power devoted to metal removal accounts for only about 25%, while losses and auxiliary functions account for the majority. The first step toward greening machine tools is to significantly reduce their weight and drive power, thereby creating machines with ecological benefits. Green machine tools introduce a completely new concept: drastically cutting weight, striving to conserve materials, and simultaneously lowering energy consumption.
